Bostonians Are Flaky

I can't tell you how many times I have had someone here tell me they are going to do something only to not show up or even call. There's flaky people everywhere these days but Bostonians take the cake. I haven't met too many people I can count on.

I had one friend that burned my girlfriend and I several times. We would make plans with this bitch and she would blow us off ruining our weekend night. She wouldn't just blow us off and leave it at that, she would keep us waiting all night saying she was on her way and then 2 hours later just ignore our calls and texts. A month later she writes us a text wanting to know what we are up to like nothing happened.

The only reason we gave the bitch several chances was she was my girlfriend's childhood friend. The final straw was last summer she pulled the same thing again on my girlfriend's birthday. Again no call, no show, no text saying happy birthday, NOTHING. A month later she wants to know why my girlfriend deleted her off facebook!

It's not just friends here that will blow you off. You can hardly conduct business. Nobody follows through. Again, I know people from Craigslist are flakes anyways but Craigslist is a joke here. I have been stood up so many times it's not even funny, even when I'm giving shit away for free! People here are so fucking rude they don't have the decency to call or text and say they can't make it. And if you are selling shit on Craigslist nobody will want to drive to pick the shit up. Anytime I have bought something off sites like Craigslist I have always assumed it is the buyer's responsibility to pick the item up. I'm not going to hand-deliver the shit to your fucking house! The only exception is if the item is far away, I'm a nice guy and sometimes I'll meet the person halfway. But people in Boston will not drive 10 minutes out of their way to pick up something they are buying from YOU! And by the way, they won't call, text, or email you to let you know, they'll just leaving you hanging all fucking night!

The fact that Bostonians are so flaky really surprised me. I thought East Coast people were more honest and upfront. This is not true. They are just fucking rude. I have found people in LA to be much more reliable and LA is known for flaky people. Go figure...

Not The Most Attractive Bunch I've Ever Seen

Bostonians are an ugly bunch. Let's be honest. Since I've lived here I find it rare to see an attractive girl walking down the street. I'll admit that I'm a bit biased after living in California but Boston really has some ugly people.

The only exception to this rule is Cambridge. And that is only because of all the college girls and let's face it, most of them are from someplace else.

I'm in my late 30's but most of the people I have met here are much younger than me and they are TORE UP! I mean missing teeth, premature wrinkles, bad skin, you name it. I don't know if it's because most people here abuse alcohol and drugs or what. What I do know is if you are looking for a beauty queen, look elsewhere.

I thought it was just me but recently I went to a Adam Carolla show at the Boston House of Blues. I was looking at the photos online and some people posted the same thing in the comments section. Not the most attractive people I've ever seen.

Boston vs New York

I'm so sick of this complex everyone in Boston has about New York. Boston isn't New York and never will be New York. It's like comparing Dennis Rodman to Michael Jordan. They were both professional basketball players but one of them was a world-class athlete in a league of his own while the other was an ugly, narotic, maniac that could grab a lot of rebounds.

New York is New York. I don't care. I don't really like the Yankees or the Giants. But I wish Bostonians would just get over it already. Anyone that knows better knows that if you want to have fun or really party you head to New York. Boston is a joke.

The Roads

The roads in Boston are really bad. I would recommend not driving at all if you have to live here. Driving in the city is bad but it's just as bad outside the city.

First of all there is no street signage. I'm not even kidding, I have driven several miles and I can't find one fucking street sign. I have no idea what street I'm on. I approach a major intersection and again, not one street sign! Don't even think about seeing a street sign on a side street.

Every once in a while you will see a sign directing you to a hospital or highway or some other major attraction. The sign ahead says hospital next right. OK, so you take that right and drive several miles and nothing. Come to find I was supposed to take another left and there wasn't another sign! What's the point of even posting the first sign if you are not going to direct me to where I'm going? This happens all the time. One of my favorites is one night my wife and I were traveling up Route 1 when we saw a sign that said McDonald's next exit. We were starving so we got off the exit and drove about 5 miles down this road and nothing. A few months later I was fucking determined to find this McDonald's and it ended up being almost 10 miles off the highway. It wasn't a straight shot either. The only reason I found it was blind luck.

The roads all around Boston make no sense. Nothing is on a grid. Street names change at will. If you don't know where you are already going you are pretty much screwed. Major highways and roads will combine into other major roads. You could be on I-95, but you are also on Route 128, and/or Route 1 and so-on.

Center lanes  don't exist around Boston. I understand there isn't a lot of room to expand roads but this just makes traffic worse. Most roads aren't clearly marked. Most of the time you are lucky if you can see the paint that divides the road. A lot of times you'll be driving down a road when out of the blue you find yourself in a left-hand turn only lane. Now you have to get over to the right. Good luck trying to merge! You finally merge to the right and all of a sudden you are in a right hand turn lane! It's fucking insane!

Potholes are everywhere. I'm talking about potholes so big that your car will get fucked up. You can't avoid them. I have never seen roads as tore up as Boston roads. Don't bother even owning a nice car here. Between the potholes and all the rocks that fly up from the roads your car is going to get trashed.

The Drivers

Boston drivers are THE WORST! If you live in this city and drive I highly recommend that you go to church every week and pray to your God that you make it home safely every day. I know drivers in every city can be bad but Boston drivers take the cake.

If you are driving in the fast lane and the speed limit says 50 and you are doing 70 don't be surprised to have some Bostonian get right up on your ass and start flashing his high-beams at you. If that doesn't work he'll simply attempt to run you off the road. I'm not even kidding.

The cops don't care either. I was once ticketed for doing the speed limit! That's not a typo. I was merging onto Route 1 from the left and didn't have enough time to get over. I was pulled over and given a ticket for "Failure to keep right." The cop told me the left lane was for "passing only." That's all fine but I was merging onto the highway. And never mind all the assholes doing 90 up Route 1...

Rotaries are fucking dangerous and most of the assholes here have no idea how to drive in them. I would love to avoid them but they are everywhere here. People are supposed to yield to the traffic in the rotary but I can't count how many times I've nearly collided with someone that didn't yield. It happens almost every day. Then you have the asshole on the inside lane of the rotary that will decide all of a sudden he wants the next right and he will completely cut the outside car off almost causing an accident. Fuck Rotaries. That's all I have to say about that.

The Mass Roadblock. This is one of my favorite Masshole moves. People here aren't patient enough to wait a few seconds to take a left so they decide to merge into the middle of the road and block one side of the street with their vehicle until traffic clears for them to take the left. This usually causes a massive backup for everyone else. There's another version of the Mass Roadblock that also pisses me off. You have people trying to take a left in a major intersection and the will pull almost all the way out so they are blocking oncoming traffic so you have to swerve to avoid them.

Another one of my favorite Masshole moves is what I call the Fuck You Left. When the light turns green the Masshole will make a quick left right in front of oncoming traffic even though they don't have a green arrow. Not only is this dangerous but usually when one guy does it the car behind him will follow and maybe even the car behind that car. So if you are going straight coming from the other direction and you have the green light, you now have wait for these bozos when they were suppose to yield to you. I have never seen this until I moved here. I was taught in driving school that you cannot take a left unless you have a green arrow or it is clear to do so.

Red light runners. People in MA won't just run a red light, these asshole will completely blow red lights. You always have to watch out for this. I have seen lights turn red for several seconds and then some Masshole comes blowing through the intersection. On New Year's Eve this resulted in a really bad car accident right in front of me.

Boston drivers will just cut you off. You always have to be on the lookout for drivers that are pulling out onto the roadway. They have no regards for you and will make you slam in your breaks. What baffles me is that most of the time they are so impatient yet after they pull out they will do 20 miles an hour just to piss you off.

If you are sitting at a light and the light turns green you have less than 1/10 of a second to hit the gas before you'll hear several horns honking behind you. You had better peel out too or you'll the guy behind you will really lay into his horn. Bostonians also love their horns way too much. The will honk at anything. Both apartments I have lived at I've had neighbors that will pull up and just lay on their horn instead of getting out of the car and knocking on the door. This happens several times a day.

A Little Background

About 2 years ago I was moving into my first apartment in Boston and was standing in line at U-Haul when the lady in front of me said, "I can't wait to get back to Chicago. I've only been in Boston a few months and I can't get out of here fast enough!"

This lady was renting a small van and leaving most of her furniture behind. She couldn't get out of town fast enough. I don't know what her entire story was but I know now that I should have taken that as a good sign to turn around and go home.

The guy working the counter at U-Haul was drunk. He wasn't even just a little bit buzzed, the guy was hammered. He reeked of booze. He was stumbling and slurring his words. He was the only guy working on a Saturday afternoon and was also responsible for bringing the moving trucks up front for the customers. Another sign.

I have lived all over the United States but I have never lived in a city that is as misrable as Boston. No other city even comes close. I've lived here now for 2 years and I've tried my best to give it a chance and find reasons to like it and I just can't. The other day I started to make a list in my head of all the things I can't stand about this city and the list grew so long I thought I could probably write a book on just the reasons why people should think twice before moving to this city. New England in general sucks. Boston is a lot worse.

Now before I start my list I already know that I'm going to get some asshole Bostonians that are going to say shit like "If you don't like it then leave! We don't want you here anyways... blah, blah, blah."

My response to you is, Shut the fuck up! First this is my blog. I don't owe you an explanation why I'm still here. I'll just say I have reasons why I have to be here right now. As soon as I possibly can I will be moving, I kid you not.

I'll leave my comments open as I would like to hear other peoples' stories. If you don't like what I have to say you are more than welcome to post a a semi-inteligent response. Remember, you don't have to agree with me or even read what I write. This is my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
